Project outline

This is an outline of our sign and our plan on what we were going to paint. It is a sketch on binder paper and overall, the finished product looked even better than the sketch. Overall, we planned very well and knew what we were going to do from the start.

This is a chart including everything that we needed to buy in order to complete our project. We already both had our own brushes because we are somewhat experienced with art. These three things were mainly the base for our project.

Finished!

On March 28th, 2018, we finished our Hummingbird Garden Sign! It is very colorful with a beautifully painted hummingbird and it was so much fun to create. We can't wait to see it up installed in the garden!

Timeline

  • Monday, March 19th, 2018 - Leah and Sydney discussed how they were going to split up the painting and who was buying what materials. We sketched the sign on a piece of binder paper so we had an idea of what we were going to put on the board.
  • Tuesday, March 20th, 2018 - Leah bought a .5in. x 23in. x 23in. MDF board from Home Depot. We initially thought that we were going to use this material board for our project.
  • Wednesday, March 21st, 2018 - We  learned that the MDF board will absorb water and have a hard time lasting in rainy and wet weather.
  • Thursday, March 22nd, 2018 - Leah returned the MDF board we thought we were going to use for our project. In the same dimensions, she bought plywood, so when covered in paint, it won't take in as much damage as an MDF board.
  • Friday, March 23rd, 2018 - Leah bought an 118ml tube of white acrylic paint to prime the board. She then painted two dark green vines as well. This dried overnight.
  • Saturday, March 24th, 2018 - Leah dropped off the started painting of the sign at Sydney's house.
  • Saturday March 24th through Wednesday March 28th, 2018 - Sydney fantastically painted beautiful designs and perfected the whole entire sign. It was amazingly constructed, and we then had our finished product on that last day.

Hummingbird Sketched!

On Saturday, March 24th, Leah dropped the primed board off at Sydney's house. From there, Sydney sketched a hummingbird along with the words "hummingbird garden" one of the many small gardens in our school, for the sign's location to be in front of the Mickey Long Center.

Primed!

On March 23rd, Leah bought a tube of white paint, and primed the wooden board in white. She then took green and added vines and with blue, added the letters WGHS for Willow Glen High School. Then, it was let dry and the next morning, ready to be shipped off.
